History

Founded in 1959, Groupe Lelys first concentrated its operations on two types of printing: flexographic printing of labels and lithographing of circulars, forms, letterhead, etc.

Towards the end of the 1980s, Groupe Lelys was purchased by Érik Péladeau, son of the late editor and famous businessman Pierre Péladeau. He decided that the business should focus on a single specialty: printing labels by flexography process.

In 1990, Groupe Lelys moved into its new offices in Laval. Keeping at the forefront of the latest technological equipment , the Company quickly earned an excellent reputation for high-end label production both in terms of product quality and excellent service, thus carving its place among the best in the industry.

In December 1999, Groupe Lelys made its first acquisition, Étiquettes Probel, and integrated the operations in its Laval plant to improve production planning flexibility and capitalize on resulting synergies.

A second acquisition, Étiquettes Flexo-Express, was made in April 2001. This small family-owned business was quickly and easily brought into the fold of Groupe Lelys’ operations.

Finally, the third and largest acquisition took place in September 2001: the Toronto-based Label Depot. Operating under the Group Lelys banner, its manufacturing operations remain in Toronto to allow Groupe Lelys to establish itself in that region and, at the same time, diversify its range of products.

Today, Groupe Lelys still differentiates itself from the competition thanks to the expert skills and professionalism of its high calibre personnel whose driving force is fuelled by the needs of customers. Indeed, the company has been able to build strong customer loyalty because of its team’s commitment to meeting customer expectations.

Ensuring that its equipment remains at the cutting edge of technology, Groupe Lelys has maintained a solid hold as leader in the flexography printing industry both in Quebec and across Canada.

In 2007, Groupe Lelys was the first plant in Canada to add the latest generation flexography press to its printing machinery. The computer-assisted Nilpeter press is equipped with 9 U.V. printing units and two screen printing heads, allowing Groupe Lelys to specialize in hot and cold stamping with online electronic inspection and printing capacity of up to 200 lines per inch. One of its main features is printing on unsupported film (shrink wrap/sleeves).

Since its beginnings, Groupe Lelys has experienced relentless growth. The pride and ambition of both owner, Erik Péladeau, and employees have solidly set Groupe Lelys on the path to a very promising future into new revolutionary markets.
